I didn’t mean to build this big online birth course while growing a baby.
Devoted Birth took root slowly, quietly, while I was learning how to hold more. More emotions, more uncertainty, more softness.
And if you’ve ever launched something while feeling deeply human and wildly unfinished, you’ll understand this post.
This isn’t a how-to guide on productivity. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to create an online birth course while also growing a human.
What it’s asked of me, what I’ve learned, what I’m still learning.
I’ve been working on Devoted Birth in some form for the past two years.
Ideas scribbled in notebooks. Modules drafted and reworked.
Pauses for life. Big shifts. False starts. Then, this pregnancy.
Because something changed when I found out I was expecting again.
The course I had been building slowly in the background came into focus.
It felt more embodied. More clear. More needed.
Although Devoted Birth has been in the works for a while, this second pregnancy brought it to life.
If you’re preparing for birth here on Whidbey Island or anywhere, this course was built to walk with you. In real time, by someone who’s been walking it too.
Balancing my photography business on Whidbey Island with bringing this online birth course to completion during pregnancy came with its own rhythm.
There were days I had to rest.
Evenings spent editing photos.
And mornings writing and planning before my daughter woke up.
But Whidbey has a way of reminding me to breathe slower.
To let life move at its own pace.
The quiet, natural beauty of this place – ocean air, open sky, winding roads – found its way into everything I created.
Devoted Birth may be online, but it was rooted here. In this season. In this landscape. In the liminal space between motherhood and making.
I didn’t want to create something that just checked boxes.
There are already enough courses that tell you what to expect.
What I needed, and couldn’t find, was something that made space for how it feels.
The overwhelm, the unknown, the quiet courage it takes to keep showing up anyway.
Devoted Birth is a different kind of online birth course.
Not a checklist, not a performance, not a prescription for how to “do it right.”
It’s a place to prepare with intention.
To ask better questions.
To remember that your voice, your body, your experience, already matter.
This course won’t give you a script.
It gives you space.
To go deeper. To trust yourself. And to prepare without pressure.
Pregnancy the second time around hits differently.
There’s more softness. More surrender.
And finishing this online birth course while moving through my own preparation reminded me:
You don’t have to wait until you have it all together to create something meaningful.
Devoted Birth was created in the middle of real life.
Because that’s when most of us are preparing – for birth, for motherhood, for whatever’s next.
If you’re navigating all of it too, this is for you.
Do you want to prepare for birth in a way that actually feels like you?
Early access to Devoted Birth, my online birth course, opens Sunday, April 28 for just $77. The lowest rate it will ever be.
