Birth preparation isn’t a pass/fail test.
It’s not about how calm you can stay or how much pain you can handle.
It’s not about whether you followed your birth plan to the letter.
And it’s definitely not about being the “ideal” version of yourself while doing it.
But that’s hard to remember when you’re in the thick of birth preparation.
So many expecting parents fall into the trap of trying to master birth.
To study all the right things.
To plan for every outcome.
And to learn the language. Speak it fluently. Control what they can.
I know that energy well. And I’ve carried it, too.
There’s a version of birth that gets sold everywhere. On social media, in books, in traditional classes.
The calm. The control. The perfect rhythm; as if birth is something to be performed for someone else’s approval.
But birth isn’t a performance. It’s a lived experience.
When we focus so much on doing it “right,” we lose connection to what’s real:
The breath.
The body.
The power that comes from presence—not perfection.
If you’re in the middle of birth preparation and feel like there’s a checklist you’re supposed to follow perfectly, take a breath.
You’re allowed to prepare without pressure.
You’re allowed to be soft and strong at the same time.
I’m not saying don’t learn.
Or don’t plan.
I believe in both.
But I also believe that meaningful birth preparation makes space for the unexpected.
For your full humanity.
For change, intensity, surrender, and surprise.
This is the kind of preparation I teach inside Devoted Birth.
An online birth course that’s grounded, flexible, and built to hold space for you to prepare without performing.
Inside, we focus on:
– Coping with intensity in real time
– Creating a plan that can bend without breaking
– Tuning into your intuition
– Naming your needs and protecting your space
– Preparing for postpartum with honesty, not hustle
You don’t need to be perfect, you just need to be present.
Guess what? You don’t need to ace this, you don’t need to have it all figured out you don’t need to live up to someone else’s version of a “good birth.”
You’re not a walking birth plan.
You are a person – expecting, feeling, evolving.
Let your birth preparation reflect that.
Devoted Birth, my online birth course, opens for early access on Monday, April 28 at the lowest price it will ever be: $77.
If you’re ready to prepare without the pressure, this is your invitation.
